SiteGround AI Agent: review, pricing and an alternative
SiteGround's AI Agent manages a WordPress site from a chat. Here is what it costs, whether it works away from SiteGround hosting, what it can touch, how it guards and undoes changes, and when a different kind of assistant suits you better, from SiteGround's own pages as of October 2026.
We make Sarcio, the alternative on this page, so we have tried to be fair: every fact about SiteGround's agent comes from SiteGround's own pages or the plugin's WordPress.org listing, checked on October 24, 2026, and linked under Sources. Where those pages do not say, neither do we. The agent changes often, so check the latest before you decide.
What SiteGround's AI Agent is
SiteGround calls it the AI Agent for WordPress: "a specialized WordPress assistant in SiteGround AI Studio". AI Studio is SiteGround's AI workspace, with chat across several AI models and more than a dozen agents for jobs such as SEO, email and social media; the WordPress agent is one of them. You reach your site through a plugin called AI Agent by SiteGround, first published on WordPress.org in April 2026.
Once the plugin is connected, you can chat with the agent from a pop-up in your WordPress admin or from the AI Studio interface. The same plugin also turns on SiteGround's AI connector for WordPress, which sends AI requests to models including ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Nano Banana. It works on standalone WordPress installs only: SiteGround says WordPress Multisite is not supported.
Does it work on other hosts?
Yes. SiteGround says the agent works on any WordPress site, wherever it is hosted, as long as you have an active AI Studio service. A site on SiteGround hosting connects in a few clicks. A site hosted elsewhere connects with a connection key:
- In AI Studio, open your Profile menu, then Connectors, and choose Connect on the WordPress card.
- Choose Add External Website, enter your domain, and copy the connection key it shows.
- Install and activate the AI Agent by SiteGround plugin, click Connect in its settings, and paste the key.
SiteGround lists an active SSL certificate on the site as a requirement, and says the agent has the same abilities wherever the site is hosted. No separate AI provider key is needed.
What it costs
The agent runs on AI tokens from an AI Studio plan. A token measures the text going to and from the AI model; SiteGround says the number a task uses depends on the length and complexity of the request and the answer, and on the model, and that an agent's task counts every step it takes. It does not give a typical number of tokens for a WordPress task.
Free for SiteGround customers
Every SiteGround customer gets one free AI tokens plan, with 20,000 tokens a month, granted on their first paid purchase of web hosting, email marketing, a website builder plan or a domain. SiteGround's WordPress hosting plans list the AI Agent for WordPress and free monthly AI tokens among their features, and the agent's page says it is included free in all of them.
If you are not a SiteGround customer
The agent's page says you sign up for AI Studio and start a 14-day free trial with 20,000 tokens, on any site wherever it is hosted. What happens when the trial ends, and what it then costs to keep the agent without a SiteGround purchase, is not stated on that page.
Paid tokens
- Monthly plans: from $10 a month for 100,000 tokens a month up to $500 a month for 5,000,000, or 20% less paid yearly ($100 a year for 100,000 a month).
- One-time top-ups: from $15 for 100,000 tokens up to $750 for 5,000,000.
- Nothing carries over. Unused tokens from a monthly plan do not roll into the next month, and a top-up's tokens expire on its own date.
Prices are SiteGround's listed regular prices in US dollars, before VAT or sales tax.
What it can touch
- Content: create, edit, publish and delete posts and pages; categories, tags, menus and media; comment moderation; SEO titles, descriptions and image alt text; translation.
- WooCommerce: create and edit products, bulk catalogue and price changes, orders, customer details and sales reports.
- Maintenance: update WordPress, install, update, remove and audit plugins and themes, and change general, reading and permalink settings.
- Users: create accounts, reset passwords, change roles and remove access.
- Many sites at once: connect several WordPress sites to AI Studio and apply updates, users, settings or content changes across all of them from one chat.
- Advice: guidance on speed, security, plugin conflicts, theme design and code snippets.
Power Mode, preview and undo
Power Mode
Power Mode is SiteGround's safeguard, and it is off by default. While it is off, the agent pauses and alerts you instead of doing a high-impact action: deleting posts, pages, categories, tags, users, media, plugins, themes or products; bulk content changes; creating and updating users; changing general settings such as the site URL, title and timezone; and creating and managing WooCommerce products and orders. The pause comes with a button to turn Power Mode on, and the agent then carries on. Power Mode then stays on until you switch it off in the plugin.
Actions outside that list, such as creating and editing posts and pages, do not need Power Mode.
Preview
Not stated. Neither SiteGround's pages nor the WordPress.org listing describe seeing a change on your site before it goes live.
Undo
SiteGround says many actions can be reversed directly in the AI chat, and others may need restoring by hand: from a previous revision, or, on SiteGround hosting, from its Backup tool. The plugin's changelog adds post and page revision support and an activity log that records page and post changes.
Installs and ratings
As of October 24, 2026, the AI Agent by SiteGround listing on WordPress.org shows 1+ million active installations and a rating of 1.7 out of 5 from 98 ratings (16 five-star, one two-star and 81 one-star). The current version is 1.3.1, released September 30, 2026. It needs WordPress 5.0 or later and PHP 7.4 or later. Read the reviews themselves on the listing to see what they are about.
Who SiteGround's agent is the better choice for
- You host with SiteGround and want something free and built in. The agent and 20,000 tokens a month come with your hosting at no extra cost, and a SiteGround site connects in a few clicks. For that, it is the natural pick.
- You want one AI workspace for the whole business. AI Studio also has agents for SEO, email, ads and social media, and chat across several models, under the same tokens.
- You want everyday edits done without an extra step. Creating and editing posts and pages needs no confirmation, and Power Mode is the brake on deletions and bulk work.
- You run many sites from one place. One chat in AI Studio can reach every connected site.
Sarcio as an alternative
Sarcio is a WordPress plugin for building and changing your site by asking, and for fixing it when something breaks. You ask in plain words inside wp-admin. It works through WordPress abilities, as your signed-in user under WordPress's own permission checks, and it never runs code the AI wrote.
- Preview every change. Each change goes onto a private preview of your own site that only you see, in a panel beside the chat. Show live flips between the preview and the page your visitors see.
- Live only on Apply. Nothing reaches your visitors until you choose Apply, and every applied change can be undone with its own Undo button.
- Any host. It works on any host and any theme, with no AI Studio or hosting account to tie it to.
- Safe plugin and theme updates. After an update it checks your key pages and puts the earlier version back if something broke.
- For agencies. One request run across many sites, and white label: your name, logo and colour on the screens your clients see.
- Fixing second. Visitors can report what is broken from the page, and Sarcio drafts the fix for you to preview and approve.
Plans and install
SiteGround's agent and Sarcio, side by side
- Where you ask: SiteGround's agent in a wp-admin pop-up or in AI Studio. Sarcio inside wp-admin.
- Price: SiteGround's agent is free for SiteGround customers with 20,000 tokens a month, with paid tokens from $10 a month. Sarcio is from $19 a month, after a 14-day trial.
- Account: SiteGround's agent needs an AI Studio account, and a connection key away from SiteGround. Sarcio needs a Sarcio account; you sign in or create one when you click Connect.
- Before a change: SiteGround's agent asks you to turn on Power Mode for deletions, bulk work, users, settings and store changes. Sarcio previews every change on your own site.
- Undo: SiteGround's agent reverses many actions in the chat, others from a revision or a backup. Sarcio has an Undo button on every applied change.
- Many sites: both run one request across several sites.

Which should you choose?
If your site is on SiteGround and you want an AI chat for WordPress that costs nothing extra, start with SiteGround's agent: it is already part of your plan. If you want to see every change on your own site before your visitors do, apply it when you are ready, undo anything, and keep the same assistant whichever host you use, Sarcio is built for that.
